New rules for work permits
The Swedish Parliament has adopted new rules for work permits. The most important changes are:
- A new salary requirement to obtain a work permit.
- A requirement for comprehensive health insurance.
- The Swedish Migration Agency may reject applications for work permits because of shortcomings linked to the employer.
The new rules came into effect on June 1, 2026.
